Question by My BFF is a Pitador!: How often do you think when people claim to be a “vet tech” or “dog trainer” that it is false?
Recently, there seems to be a lot of “vet techs” here on Y!A and where I am sure that some of them are legitimate (I can usually tell by the types of questions they choose to answer and how accurate their responses are) but it seems quite a few people give faulty advice and claim their “source” to be “vet tech for X years”.
Why would someone intentionally state false facts and then try to convince the asker that they are correct by giving false credentials?
It has led me to wonder if anyone has ever followed the advice of the “vet techs” and have caused harms to their animals and it scares me.
I don’t see the point in not only giving bad advice but then attempt to validate the poor advice by claiming to be a “vet tech” or (rarely) “certified dog trainer”.
Has anyone else picked up on this latest trend?
PS Just to clarify, I am certain there are more than enough actual vet techs and dog trainers on here; some who state their position and some who do not and I am curious as to your take on this as well.
Adding: I would never come here to ask medical advice or actually any advice that I could get from my own vet or training club. I just see it a lot here and it scares me in case anyone actually listens to it

Answer by Rayven-Fried Sea Kittens Anyone? Its always been like that on here. Which is why its kills me when people come on here asking for medical advice or about what human meds they can give their dog. I don’t care if something was ok for someone else’s dog you shouldn’t ever treat or give a dog anything without talking or see your own vet. That’s just common sense.
Most often the wannabee just parrot the answers they have seen on here and other times. They give bad advice and have the nerve to slap vet tech on there or in some cases breeder. There are more than a few bybs running around on here giving out advice that no good breeder would.
